Rye Watersports, East Sussex
Seasonal role | March to November
Onsite staff accommodation available by the lakeside
Rye Watersports is a busy, friendly family run RYA Training Centre based on a large coastal lake just outside Rye, East Sussex and only two miles from Camber Sands.
We deliver a wide range of watersports including sailing, windsurfing, wingfoiling, paddleboarding, kayaking, powerboating and open water swimming, alongside a busy programme of school groups, youth courses and holiday activities.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced RYA Senior Instructor to join our team and take a key role in the day-to-day running of the centre throughout the 2027 season.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys both teaching and taking responsibility for the wider operation of a busy watersports centre. You will work closely with the Centre Manager, Beach Manager, instructors and beach team to ensure sessions are safe, well organised and delivered to a consistently high standard.
We are also one of the UK’s leading RYA winging centres, offering a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to develop their own winging skills and potentially work towards RYA Wingsurf and Wingfoil Instructor qualifications.
The role will include:
-
Acting as Duty Senior Instructor and supporting the daily operation of the centre
-
Delivering high-quality RYA courses within the Youth and National Sailing and Windsurfing Schemes
-
Supervising and supporting instructors and assistant instructors
-
Helping to coordinate school, youth and group activity days
-
Maintaining high standards of safety, customer care and session delivery
-
Taking ownership of the upkeep, organisation and maintenance of watersports equipment
-
Supporting staff training and development throughout the season
-
Taking a leading role in powerboat skills and staff powerboat training
-
Assisting with the wider operation of the centre during busy periods
Essential qualifications:
-
RYA Senior Instructor qualification in Dinghy Sailing or Windsurfing
-
RYA Powerboat Level 2
-
Valid First Aid qualification
Additional qualifications we would like to see:
-
RYA Dinghy Instructor
-
RYA Start Windsurfing Instructor
-
RYA Intermediate Windsurfing Instructor
-
RYA Wingsurf and/or Wingfoil Instructor
-
BSUPA Level 1 or Level 2 Instructor
-
RYA Powerboat Instructor
The role requires a flexible approach and will normally involve working five days per week, including weekends and Bank Holidays. During our busiest summer period in July and August, the role will require six days per week.
Onsite staff accommodation is available by the lakeside, making this a great opportunity for someone looking to immerse themselves in centre life for the season.
As much of our work involves children and young people, the successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check.
We are looking for someone positive, practical and approachable who enjoys being part of a close-knit team and is happy to get involved in all aspects of centre life.
